Heavily influenced by The Lord of the Rings. The specific scene is at the door of Moria in Fellowship of the Ring. The riddle was solved by Frodo (Speak friend & Enter) Mellon in Elvish.
This knitting pattern is a one skein pattern, fingering weight, by Botanical Fibres (Northern Collection) sock, Heirloom Red. The picture shown for this pattern is the large. Size: (15" wide & 14" tall) for the large and (13" wide & 14" tall) for the medium.
Large: Yarn amount (429 m) approx.
Medium: Yarn amount (333.75 m) approx.
This is a great pattern for a novice to start off with. It looks complicated but is remarkably easy and fun to knit up. An all around fun pattern to work up with your favorite yarn and colour.
Needles: 24 inch long circular, 4.0 mm needles.
Gauge: 22 sts & 24 rows with 4.0 mm needles.

Meet Jennifer, the person behind Yarn Traveler & Haberdashery. Her passion began with locally dyed yarn and beautifully handcrafted knitting needles, discovered while visiting a local yarn shop in Calgary. Over the years, her love for fibre arts grew through knitting, crocheting, sewing, teaching, and travelling. After moving to Nova Scotia in 2019, she began developing the idea of an online yarn shop, launching Yarn Traveler & Haberdashery in December 2021. Today, the shop focuses on beautiful yarn, handcrafted tools, and supporting local and North American artisans.

This sock yarn is made from 80% Superwash Merino and 20% Nylon, giving you softness, drape, and extra durability for close-to-skin projects like socks, gloves, and light layering pieces.

Each 100g skein contains approximately 400 meters (437 yards) of yarn, which is plenty for a standard pair of adult socks, a generous cowl, or lightweight shawlette.

Hand wash in cool water with a gentle, no-rinse wool wash. Gently squeeze out excess moisture (do not wring), and lay flat to dry in the shade to maintain shape and color vibrancy.

Yes! It works wonderfully for any standard fingering or 4-ply weight pattern. We always recommend knitting a small gauge swatch first to ensure your tension matches the pattern instructions.

All our indie yarns are hand-dyed in small batches. Because of the artisanal hand-dyeing process, slight variations in color distribution and saturation occur, making each skein uniquely beautiful.
